By working across three off-seasons, the team was able to continue playing in the venue throughout and fans had new amenities to look forward to each season.
“Other stadiums, arenas and ballparks should pay attention to the phased approach that the Dolphins took. The project’s premium and food and beverage experiences throughout were inspired by hospitality and club spaces throughout the city as well.”Īsked which features other older stadiums should consider in future redesigns, Day says the phased approach worked nicely. “We also collaborated with the Dolphins to integrate and execute their vision for branding elements throughout. In addition to creature comforts, Hard Rock Stadium’s new design also pays homage to both its location and its primary tenant.
“Some teams are hyper focused on premium the Dolphins understood that there had to be a balance between catering to the premium fan and the general ticket holder and creating an equally memorably experience for both.” We thought through every fan type– business associates, families, the super fan–and accommodated the team’s diverse fan base through these spaces.”ĭay says the focus on delivering for every type of fan was an approach other stadiums should consider as they renovate older spaces. “Each fan now has unique amenities they have access to. “The premium amenities have also had a day and night difference–exceeding fan expectations and creating spaces for every single ticket holder,” says Day. Two unique new types of sideline clubs and end zones were created with the assistance of Rockwell Group. In the final phase, major updates were made to premium areas on the 200 Club and 200 Mezzanine Suite Levels. Not only did it improve the fan experience by providing much-needed shade from the sun and shelter from rain, but it’s created a more intimate-feeling space.” “The roof has made a tremendous difference. “It allows for the experience to be very unique to the city.”Īsked which design elements have received the most positive feedback, Day says the open-air canopy has been a big success. “The open roof canopy is definitely the most striking architectural feature–and it’s possible because of Miami’s incredible weather,” says Day.
The following off-season, the stadium’s signature architectural element was added: an open-air canopy was added to provide weather protection and sun shading while also amplifying crowd noise. “One of our biggest challenges was working with the client and project team to align the overall schedule, budget and design goals over this multi-phased project, while also tackling site improvements and more,” says Day.
